Description

This module will support students as they engage with historical developments and influences on early childhood education, with issues of policy development and implementation and examine the impact of research on policy development. The module will begin with an introduction to using libraries and carrying out literature searches which are essential skills for successful completion of the course. Early in the module students will be introduced to an historical perspective to facilitate their exploration and understanding of the development of early childhood education and the impact of social and economic change on the education of young children. The module will cover: the development of early education provision; international developments; European perspectives; the social construction and history of childhood; the language of early education; early intervention studies influencing the development of early childhood education.
